I was inspired by looking the many different way’s Macbeth has been recreated, in many different contexts. My concept was driven by looking at the ideas suggested and putting them in a storyline realistic to a modern society. I was inspired by the concept of greed and desire and guilt, I recreated Macbeth within 1930’s New York with in a gang led society – how far will you go to get to the top.
This project was split in to two, design then historical making. After our designs we then had to recreate our chosen character in to a given time period. For me it was 1870, still keeping with my original concept, we were given the challenge of making a historically accurate costume.
My textile were inspired by the territorial nature of gangs in New York doing the time, each, looking at maps and boundaries for each gangs environment. .
